Day Three

Tonight I watched a television show on Comedy Central with my boyfriend. The three main characters are animated teenage boys. Two are black and one is white. They were stranded in a bad part of town and two white cops drove up to help. They picked up the white boy and left the other two stranded still. When I saw this I laughed at first and then I realized what I was actually laughing at and how television shows like this turn racism into something that people are supposed to find funny. This show frequently portrays incidents like this of racism towards black people and incidents of white privilege. For example, the white friend is extremely rich while they other two are portrayed as very poor, and from a bad neighborhood. The white friend is an only child while the others have families with tons of children. The racist incidents are intended to be funny and make the audience laugh, but they are still promoting racism.
